Baroida Estate, nestled in Papua New Guinea's Kainantu District, was established in the 1960s by Ben Colbran. Initially purchasing the land from a local named Taro, Colbran embarked on coffee cultivation, now overseen by his son Nichol. The estate's name derives from the Baroida spirit, believed to inhabit a resilient river rock on the property. Situated amidst mountains and valleys, Baroida faces challenges like soil water-logging, which is mitigated through innovative drainage solutions. Nichol continues his father's legacy, maintaining traditional methods while adapting to modern demands and ensuring high-quality coffee production.
Meticulous separation for quality control helps maintain the high quality of the estate’s coffee. After careful sorting, the cherries are laid on tarps to sundry. Parchment is raked frequently to ensure even drying.
