Swara—meaning "gazelle" in Swahili—symbolizes the agility and resilience of Kenyan coffee farmers, much like the graceful animal itself. This Swara coffee comes from a collection of small estates and cooperatives working with Sucafina's partner company in Thika, Kenya. This partnership ensures every step of Swara’s production aligns with both quality and sustainability standards, allowing us to offer an outstanding Kenyan coffee that is accessible and strengthens producer communities.
The journey begins with selective handpicking, where ripe cherries are brought to local washing stations or processed on-site by farmers themselves. To maintain Swara’s high standards, the coffee cherries are carefully sorted before pulping, then undergo fermentation and washing to remove mucilage. Once cleaned, the parchment is placed on raised beds to dry under watchful care. These beds are regularly turned and covered during peak sun and overnight to prevent cracking, a process that can take up to two weeks depending on weather. From farm to mill, Swara coffee embodies commitment to traceability, resilience, and the power of community-driven coffee.
