about the coffee

Rising from the volcanic terrain of East Java, Mount Ijen is one of Indonesia’s most striking landscapes. Known for its glowing blue fire and the world’s largest acidic crater lake, the region is shaped by mineral-rich soil and a dynamic climate that deeply influence the coffee grown there. Farms scattered across these slopes benefit from this environment, producing coffees that carry both intensity and depth. The farmers in this region often cultivate multiple crops, including tobacco, balancing seasonal work throughout the year. Many come from Madurese heritage, bringing generations of agricultural knowledge and cultural identity into their farming practices. Coffee here is not just a crop, but part of a broader livelihood rooted in resilience and adaptability.

about the process

This lot is carefully processed beginning with selective cherry picking, followed by washing and sorting at the Botolinggo wet mill to ensure only the highest quality fruit continues. The coffee is then dried for 11 to 13 days before being milled and prepared for export. This natural process allows fruit sugars to fully develop, resulting in the coffee’s vibrant strawberry and tangerine notes, while the region’s influence contributes to its signature smooth, velvety body.
