On the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, the Ichuga Factory stands as part of the Kiama Farmers’ Cooperative Society—representing over 800 smallholder producers whose farms dot Nyeri’s fertile volcanic hills. Sitting between 1,700–1,790 masl, these farms thrive in bright red soils under a cool, steady climate that allows coffee cherries to ripen slowly, developing remarkable sweetness and clarity.
about the process
Each lot is meticulously washed and fermented, then dried under the mountain sun to preserve its striking profile: currant and citrus brightness, a honeyed sweetness, and a tea-like finish that lingers gracefully. This coffee reflects not just exceptional terroir but also the dedication of Kenya’s Kikuyu farmers, whose legacy of agricultural excellence continues to shape some of the world’s most expressive cups.
about the producer
Nearby lies the Ragati Conservancy, an 8,000-hectare haven of montane forest and wildlife, whose biodiversity helps sustain the balanced ecosystem around Ichuga. Guided by factory manager Stephen Kinyua, the community continues to invest in quality—upgrading washing channels, improving traceability, and achieving Rainforest Alliance certification.
